    **UPDATE - Picked up the BIC today based on your review at Dollar General for $3. Purple 4th color with navy blue lower and white upper. Much sturdier and less rattle than I expected. Very happy. I’m a truck driver. Always signing freight bills, driving logs, order delivery and pick up forms, and facility visitor logs. Excellent writer. Replacing my Pilot G2 1.0 red for my daily paperwork pen. Thanks for the review.

    When screwed down does it seal off the feed like other vac fillers or does it stay back from the feed allowing ink to flow even when fully threaded shut? Im ok either way, just like to know especially since im about to take a flight and might pick one up.

    I have an A3 and LS, I can tell there is a notable difference in the spring release. The LS is much quieter and the nib tracts back into the body slowly and smoothly. The A3 by contrast has a much faster and louder retraction, you can certainly feel the quality difference when you retract it compared to the LS. The LS’ parts are also metal compared to the plastic ends of the A3, so hence the obvious difference in the feel of quality. However, I do agree that the A3 is a good pen overall. I happen to enjoy retractable fountain pens, and I’m slowly building more of my collection around them. My collection is mostly pilot pens, but the Majohn’s certainly do have a place in my collection. If someone wants to try out one of my fountain pens I won’t hesitate to let them use a Majohn but my Vanishing Points, especially the LS are for my use only.

    I love this review, James. I always trust your reviews and am keen to get them before I buy something. But I just felt that sailor is “onto a winner here” to use one of your phrases and ordered it. I had to order it from Goulet because it’s not available here in Australia, unfortunately. That’s ok because I have been able to pick up some “good stuff” that only Mr Goulet has. I am so glad that Sailor has been able to replicate the feedback in that steel nib. If you know, you know as the young folk say! I hope the weather is good in Tx. I heard reports of unseasonal rain. Keep up the good work!

    You talked about getting ink on the grip when filling, but one of the features of this pen is that you can fill it by only submerging what they call the the "heart hole" on the top of the nib.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews 2 дня назад

      As I mentioned elsewhere in the comments, that is true, yes. My point (especially with the Diamine bottles) is that you can still easily go too far into the ink and then its shape will become an issue. My thinking was as much about the smallness of the Diamine opening as the pen itself.

    There is already a better solution that doesn't require moving parts that could break. Some ingenious companies have created pens that have a Round grip so that you can hold the pen at any of the 360 degrees of a circle. Me thinks that Sailor is trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

  • @zathrasnotzathras9435
    @zathrasnotzathras9435 2 дня назад

    I never understood this triangular type of grip. I guess back in the 70s when I was in school all of my teachers taught some version of the Palmer method. My index finger was trained to be on top of the pen, not on the side. I may get this pen just for the novelty of it, but I can’t see it ever replacing a standard round grip section

  • @jacobus57
    @jacobus57 2 дня назад

    If you did even the most cursory research or examination of the pen, you would know Sailor addressed the filing issue. What looks like the breather hole is actually the filler hole. It's a brilliant design. In the interest of accuracy and fairness, you need to pull down this review and correct this glaring omission.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews 2 дня назад

      Oh, yes, definitely the movement of the hole a couple of mm will completely solve it. I'm surprised the entire pen industry hasn't turned on its head with this revelation. And certainly the entire review is invalidated. Blasphemous, even! We must all sit now in sackclothe and ashes for even having viewed it. Whoa is me, I missed hole in a nib! Terrible man that I am! Mercy.

    • @ravilamir
      @ravilamir 2 дня назад

      It is also true for many of their fountain pens. It's a little trick and should work with all the 14kt nibs and other nibs. In essence, you only need to submerge the nib to cover the breather hole when filling from a bottle. It isn't spelled out in the manual for most pens, but rather shown in a drawing. Sailor's website for the Tuzu makes it a stand out feature, but it's something they have been doing for many years.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews 2 дня назад

      @ravilamir Thanks for reasonable reminder. Yes, my point in the video was that even then, many users (especially newer or those with shaky hands/arthritis/other) will still put their pens too far in. Goodness, I do it about 1 in 10 fills just because I'm human (if that's still allowed).

      @gowanfenley День назад

      I disagree. Kudos to Sailor for bringing something totally new to the market! Even without the adjustment feature, this pen fills a gap in their entry-level product line: a modern design and some bold colors, very different from the cigar-shaped Compass and the pastel LeCoule. Add in the fact that it comes with two cartridges and a converter and you have a good value proposition, plus the availability of a BROAD nib and I think you have a winner. I predict the TUZU will be extremely popular, and could even turn out to be Sailor's answer to the Metropolitan.

  • @paulmchugh1430
    @paulmchugh1430 3 дня назад

    I had a Parker 75 with a similar concept. However, you moved the nib to adjust the position of your grip. I didn't know if it was a gimmick or was a real feature. As it has a triangular grip, I think, now, that it does have a purpose, especially for those, like me, that positions my index finger on top of the grip. This could be beneficial for me. As for the pen itself, Sailor makes quality pens. That they have introduced a pen in the lower price range is a plus and certainly worth considering. Thank you for the review, James.

    • @Johan-vk5yd
      @Johan-vk5yd 2 дня назад

      Index finger on top of the pen is the position that has recently become a favorite grip for me. I wonder if the ”tripod grip” should be more put into question when children learn to write, given that so many struggle with it?

    • @paulmchugh1430
      @paulmchugh1430 2 дня назад

    I think the price is very reasonable for this pen. But, shipping from India can be expensive. The other drawback to this is the nib options. They only offer Medium and Broad. Given how wide the Medium nib writes, it would be too broad for my handwriting. I agree with you that my choice of nib size goes for the larger nibs like #6 or #8. As it keeps my hand further away from the paper. I do have smaller nib pens that are #5 or hooded and they do work well but I tend to hold the pen close to the nib and the larger nibs feel more comfortable to me. I think I will opt for the Noodler's pen, perhaps the Ahab or some other model. Thank you James for presenting a great review of this interesting pen and that you can eyedropper fill it which is a good option for me. Most converters just do not hold enough ink (the converter on the Jinhao 9019 and 9016 are the exceptions).

      Definitely. I didn’t mention it, but I included the ability in the specifications.

    Good looking pen, but website only shows price in rupees and when checking out only lists India as billing address. Bummer

    I think I would call the converter a vacuum converter rather than a push-pull converter. Nice review as always James.

    The tiny nib in your caption looks ridiculous, but the overall design and quality look really nice, should de worth trying 😬
